Chianti Country

Next, we journeyed to Orvieto, a small village perched on a rock cliff overlooking a vineyard-covered plain in Umbria, Italy - dating from 1290. We took a tram up to visit Piazza del Duomo to admire the cathedral full of statues of well-known saints, Popes, and other religious figures.

We had a private wine tasting from local vineyards. We strolled the streets and perused the many shops before continuing towards the Eternal City of Rome.

We had a tour by a local guide who revealed Rome’s various museums, churches, and other famous landmarks to us. Domenic’s favorite church was Sant’ Ignazio of Loyola Church – the painted ceiling rivaled the Sistine Chapel. We also saw the Pantheon and Trajan’s Column (erected in the 2nd century AD).

And, of course, we threw our coins over our left shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, which ensured we would return to Italy one day. Here we had a midday treat of gelato from Café’ Roma Gelateria. We headed to Piazza Novano for a fabulous four-course meal outside.  Domenic bestowed roses on each of the ladies in our group – what a guy!
