The next day, we headed to Venice, relaxed on a private boat where we saw iconic floating houses, journeyed through the beautiful Italian lake district, passed Lakes Iseo and Garda to the floating city of Venice, and landed at St. Mark’s Square, where we saw a gilded basilica. We enjoyed a fantastic meal, our first sip of a Hugo Spritz, a favorite in Italy, and our first of many gelatos.
The following day, we got up early and took a boat to the center of Venice, where we began a four-hour walking tour through the many islands connected by bridges of varying sizes and shapes. Afterward, we enjoyed a gondola ride through the canals while an Italian gondolier serenaded us.
We then took a boat ride to the island of Murano, where we had a private viewing of the oldest glassblowing factory, Fornace Cam. Although we planned to not make a purchase, Dom couldn’t resist the gorgeous hand blown glasses ornated with platinum hand paintings (and Pamm had to have a very beautiful hand blown beaded bracelet).
We then ventured to Burano’s Island, which housed an ancient fishing village famous for its vibrantly colored houses. There, we had a fish feast prepared by local chefs.
